Learn How Owner John Rossi Keeps His Employees Happy in the Bay Area
For as long as John Rossi can remember, Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of the Bay Area has led the company in monthly sales – and he has his team to thank. “We continue to hire amazing technicians, along with an amazing office staff to support us,” says John, the business’ general manager.
The business, owned by Dan Gagne, has three locations across the San Francisco area. John started with the company in 2011 as an installation technician, rising through the ranks over the years. In 2020, he and another longtime employee, Nick MacQuarrie, became part owners of the business’ East Bay location.
Once you hire the right person, training is key, John says. The COVID-19 pandemic made that more difficult, but the business has begun training apprentices again, with an eye on growing the team in 2022. Four apprentices are training to become technicians over the next year.
“Our method is to keep our employees happy and continue to coach them,” he says. “They are what makes or breaks our company.”His advice to other franchise owners and general managers is simple: Focus on your employees and help them succeed.
“If they succeed, your business’ success will follow,” he says.
