The Importance of Promoting Diversity in the Plumbing Industry
August 1, 2022
Benjamin Franklin Plumbing celebrates diversity in plumbing.
Across the country, skilled tradespeople are in high demand. Approximately 75,000 new jobs will be added to the plumbing industry from 2018 to 2028 due to the expected 16% growth. The trades face a severe labor shortage with an aging workforce, a lack of diversity, and little interest from young people.
The trades have historically been male-dominated, and the lack of diversity is a significant problem. The lack of diversity limits the pool of potential workers extremely. Only 2.5% of journeyman plumbers are women, and less than 1% are people of color. A diverse workforce brings different perspectives and ideas to the table, leading to better decision-making and improved customer service. Inclusive environments are essential for the growth and development of the plumbing industry as a whole.
Benjamin Franklin Plumbing is dedicated to building a culture where our people, processes, and tools foster success no matter who you are. We are committed to promoting an inclusive work environment where all of our employees can feel appreciated, respected, and welcomed. Our response to the labor shortage has been to assist our owners in creating a more inclusive environment within the plumbing industry. We promote a diverse workforce by helping our franchise owners with Recruitment Campaigns, a Diversification Discount, and Business Management Technology.
Tri-Branded Recruiting Campaign
Over the past few decades, the health of the plumbing industry has been burdened with a skilled labor shortage. Our Tri Branded recruiting campaign is helping franchise owners recruit more skilled and diverse candidates. This campaign values diversity and creates a space where everyone is welcome. The plumbing industry needs a diverse workforce to meet all customers’ needs best. A diverse workforce helps to ensure that all customers feel comfortable and that their needs are being met.
Diversification Discount for Women & Minorities
At Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, we believe one of our most significant assets is our incredible network of people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. While many plumbers are passionate about obtaining business ownership, not everyone has the resources available to start their own business successfully. That’s why we’re proud to participate in the International Franchise Association’s VetFran ® & DiversityFran. Programs. With DiversityFran, we can offer a reduced franchise fee of $5,000 for minority-owned and women-owned businesses.
Benjamin Franklin Plumbing takes the guesswork out of plumbing for our owners. We use Successware®, a system designed to help our owners run their businesses, track finances, improve customer service, and ensure their businesses are competitive with other plumbing companies, regardless of size. This all-in-one system gives Benjamin Franklin Plumbing owners an advantage in managing inventory and retaining customers.
